Abstract (Mindfulness in serious mental disorder: systematic review)

Objetive: To evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness in people diagnosed with severe mental disorder. Method: A systematic review was performed. PUBMED, CUIDEN, JBI, CINAHL, PsycINFO, EMBASE, LILACS, COCHRANE, Teseo and OPENGREY databases were consulted , analyzing 1888 scientific articles published. Quasi-experimental and experimental designs, systematic reviews and meta-analyzes were included. The search was conducted in all languages and unrestricted publication year. Two review authors considered individually eligibility of included studies and extracted data. Results: 30 studies met the inclusion criteria and included a total of 2503 people. The ages ranged from 29 to 51 years, averaging 42 years of age, and 65% of those were women. Only one of the 30 studies the intervention was directed by a nurse. Most studies found improvements related to the practice of mindfulness. Conclusions: The use of mindfulness-based interventions in the treatment of people diagnosed with serious mental disorder brings positive results. Its application is a relatively recent issue, especially in psychotic disorders and its integration into the practice of mental health nurse is necessary.
