Resumen

Trabajo en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de un hospital de tercer nivel, y conocí al protagonista de esta historia una noche de guardia. La muerte se había convertido en la apasionada amante de aquel señor que ocupaba la cama 32 de mi módulo de trabajo, pero ni su familia, ni la institución, ni nosotros mismos le permitíamos morir. Tras un mes de ingreso, finalmente la dama de la guadaña hizo su labor, y el cuerpo de aquel anciano abandonaba este mundo bajo nuestra supervisión aunque su alma hacía días que había partido.
En la era de la tecnología hemos aprendido que somos superiores y que existe una solución técnica para cada problema. Ahora tenemos pendiente el duro trabajo de desaprender que no somos dioses y aprender que la tecnología también debería tener sus límites.

Abstract (The Intensive Care Unit and the "technological love")

I work in the Intensive Unit Care of a third level hospital. I met the main character of this story a night I was on guard. The death had become the passionate lover of a man that rested in bed 32 of my working module, but neither his family, nor ourselves didn't let him die. After a month suffering in hospital, he died and the body of that man left this world under our supervision although his soul had departed a few days ago.
In the technological era we have learnt that we are superior and that it exists a technical solution for every health problem. Now, we have to forget what we have learnt, be able to recognize that we are not gods and understand that the technologies should have their limits.
