Resumen

Partiendo de que la muerte es un fenómeno inexplicable para el ser humano, se realizan unas pequeñas reflexiones sobre la importancia para la especie humana, llegando a ser origen de la cultura y la religión. Posteriormente se analizan las diferencias entre la muerte involuntaria y la muerte voluntaria, para establecer dentro de esta última, las diferencias entre el suicidio, el suicidio asistido y la eutanasia. Por último se contempla la eutanasia alejada del ámbito exclusivamente sanitario, analizándola bajo su dimensión social y política, como fruto de un respeto de la autonomía personal que todo individuo debe tener sobre su vida y sobre su muerte.

Abstract (Reflections on death and the social dimension of euthanasia)

Based on the knowledge that death is an inexplicable phenomenon to human beings, some reflections are made about its importance for humanity, having become the origin of both culture and religion. Subsequently, differences between involuntary death and voluntary death are analysed, establishing within this last one, the differences between suicide, assisted suicide and euthanasia. Finally, the concept of euthanasia is isolated from the sanitary field, and analysed from a social and political perspective, as a consequence of every individual's personal autonomy on their life and death.
