Resumen

Desde mi primer contacto con la profesión enfermera en 1960 hasta alcanzar la jubilación en 2006, he visto como evolucionó la enfermería: desde aquellos "criados/esclavos" que mencionaba mi primer maestro, con una formación casi exclusivamente práctica, hasta las modernas enfermeras autónomas, independientes y con estudios universitarios.
No ha sido un camino de rosas, al contrario, no sólo mi generación sino las siguientes hemos tenido que luchar para dignificar esta profesión y colocarla en el lugar que ocupa ahora.
La no discriminación de sexos a la hora de asignar destinos, la integración de los estudios en la universidad, el vencer las reticencias de otros grupos profesionales en determinadas situaciones, etc. etc.
Pero, eso sí, ha merecido la pena. Aunque jubilado del ejercicio profesional, sigo en contacto con la enfermería, participando en todas las reuniones y foros en que soy requerido y nada me complace más que ver como las nuevas generaciones siguen impulsando y mejorando la más hermosa profesión que jamás haya existido.

Abstract (Chronicle of a journey through evolution)

From my first contact with the nursing profession in 1960 until my retirement in 2006, I have witnessed nursing's evolution: from those "servants/slaves" mentioned by my first lecturer, with an almost exclusively practical formation, to modern autonomous nurses, independent and university qualified.
It has not been easy, on the contrary, not only my generation but also all the subsequent ones have had to work hard to dignify this profession and take it to its present place.
The lack of sexual discrimination when allocating jobs, nursing's access to Spanish universities, the surmounting of the opposition exerted by other professional groups in determined situations, etc.
However, all this has been worth it. Although I am now retired, I am still in contact with the nursing profession, I participate in meetings and forums when my presence in these events is required, and nothing pleases me more than to observe how the new generations keep promoting and improving the most beautiful profession that has ever existed.
