Resumen

Carmen, enfermera española nacida en 1924, inició los estudios a los 15 años en la Sección Femenina de la Falange como Divulgadora Rural, obtuvo luego el título de Enfermera de Falange, el de Enfermera de la Universidad Literaria de Valencia y el de Instructora Sanitaria de la Escuela Nacional de Instructoras de Madrid. Fue enfermera asistencial y supervisora general; trabajó en diferentes instituciones. Vivió los horrores de la guerra, sus secuelas y, como mujer, la marginación y discriminación de la dictadura, pero también, los cambios de la democracia.
Con el relato vida de Carmen, el uso de la entrevista en profundidad y la colaboración de un informante clave, se pretende mostrar su percepción, sobre las implicaciones de ser mujer y ser enfermera en tiempos de la dictadura franquista. La narración se organiza en dos momentos: el primero, desde el inicio de sus estudios en 1939 hasta 1950, año en que es privada del ejercicio profesional por contraer matrimonio y el segundo, desde el regreso a la vida profesional en 1962 hasta la jubilación en 1992.
Las vivencias de Carmen coinciden con los acontecimientos generales de esta etapa de la historia de la enfermería española descritos en diferentes textos, pero, sus vivencias particulares le agregan detalles que la enriquecen e invitan a seguir explorando en sus recuerdos y a la búsqueda de experiencias similares con otras colegas de su tiempo.

Abstract (Being a woman, being a nurse in Spain, during the Dictatorship: the story of Carmen, now aged 81)

Carmen, a Spanish nurse born in 1924, began her studies at the age of 15 at the Feminine Section of the Falange as a Rural Broadcaster. Some years later she would qualify as a Falange Nurse, a Qualified Nurse at the Literary University of Valencia and a Sanitary Instructor at the National School of Instructors of Madrid. She worked as a nurse and as a general supervisor within different institutions. She lived throughout the horror of the Spanish Civil War and its consequences and, as a woman, she suffered the marginalization and discrimination brought about by the Dictatorship, also experiencing however the changes of the Democracy.
This short biography of Carmen, developed from the analysis of an interview and the collaboration of an anonymous informant, intends to show her perception, and the implications, of being a woman during Franco's Dictatorship. The text can be subdivided into two different phases: the first one, from the beginning of her studies, in 1939, to 1950, when she was banned from practising her profession after getting married, and the second one, from her return to professional life, in 1962, to her retirement, in 1992.
Carmen's experiences coincide with the general events of this particular chapter of the history of nursing in Spain that have been described within different sources. However, her personal experiences provided details that both enriched the story and encouraged the author to keep exploring her memories and the memories of other contemporary colleagues who might have had similar experiences.
