Resumen

El estudio tiene como objetivo conocer la influencia del Instituto Homeopático y Hospital San José en la enfermería española. Realizamos una búsqueda en fuentes documentales primarias y secundarias. Abordamos en primer lugar leyes o principios en que se basa la homeopatía y la respuesta que, diferentes grupos sociales tuvieron hacia la nueva ciencia. Se analiza la descripción del proyecto de construcción del hospital utilizándola como referencia de los ideales de cuidados y asistencia perseguidos. Se describe la aportación de las Siervas de María, orden religiosa fundada por Santa Soledad Torres Acosta en Madrid el año 1851, que fueron las enfermeras del Hospital de San José desde su fundación en 1878 hasta el 12 de marzo de 1888. Referimos la incorporación al hospital, el 13 de marzo de 1888, de las Hijas de la Caridad, que desarrollaron una gran labor enfermera que mereció el respeto y el aprecio en la barriada. Se puede concluir que el trabajo de las enfermeras religiosas en el recién estrenado hospital Homeopático San José,  incluyó los modos característicos derivados de la novedosa práctica medica, sumándolos al acerbo de conocimientos enfermeros y enriqueciendo con su participación la base del desarrollo profesional.

Abstract (Nursing care, Homeopatic Institute and St. Joseth´s Hospital)

This study's aim is to find the influence that the Instituto Homeopático Hospital San Jose have played in the Spanish nursing profession. Primary and secondary sources were used in our research. First we investigated the laws and principles in which homeopathy is based together with the approach to this new science of different social groups: The homeopathic revolution. We analysed as reference to the nursing assistance and its care ideals the description of the building of the hospital. The religious order "Siervas de María" was funded in Madrid in 1851 by Saint Soledad Torres.  Its members were in charge of the care of patients, both at home and in hospital, from the time of its inception in 1878 till 1888.  Took up the care "Hermanas de la Caridad" of inpatients from 1888 playing a very important role in these patient's care.  Sisters an intrinsic part of their community. We conclude that the work of these religious nurses in public health assistance as well as the care of inpatients in the newly opened homeopathic hospital adopted itself to the new practices adding their newly gain knowledge on patient's care and enriching the base of professional nursing care with their participation and making their mark on today's nursing history.
