ABSTRACT

Objectives: Kango (Nursing)-net aims to promote communication and collaboration between the public and nursing personnel. From May 2005, we, St. Luke's College of Nursing, have been providing useful healthcare information to the citizens to encourage people to make their own decisions in obtaining healthcare information and choosing how to deal with medical institutions or how to create a healthy lifestyle. Through this website, research has been conducted under the theme of Nursing for People-centered Initiatives in Health Care and Health Promotion. It has three major categories: [Health care information], [Kango-net for Kids (created by nursing students)] and [Nursing Community (a place for mutual communication)]. [Nursing Community] consists of a section for [Online Health Consultation] and [Nurse of the month] and so on.
Methods: We conducted analysis from an access situation and writing of the user to the Internet.
Results: The site has been receiving approximately 20,000 hits per month as of January 2007, and is increasing. [Online Health Consultation] has so far received approximately 60 inquiries. The majority of inquiries were related to [physical symptoms (stomach pain, infertility, type-C hepatitis)], others were concerning [Nursing schools (by high school students)], and [Nursing topics: nursing skills, definition of nursing]. Some of these topics were answered by unknown nurses.
Conclusion: Many Kango-net users demand the information about the theme like nursing equipped with the healthy problem, and the specific coping-with method.Citizens and nurses were able to discuss topics on the web.Kango-net also has an evaluation section at the end of the page which includes a number of evaluation criterions. It is our aim to use these evaluations to improve our services in order to provide high quality health-related information to the public so that they can select the best treatment.
