Resumen

En España, no se conocen escalas validadas que evalúen dimensiones positivas y negativas simultáneamente en el cuidador familiar. La escala �Revised Caregiving Appraisal Scale (RCAS) compuesta por 25 ítems, evalúa ambos tipos de impacto y ha y ha sido utilizada con una amplia trayectoria internacional. El objetivo del presente estudio fue traducir y adaptar culturalmente la escala RCAS a la población española, obteniendo la versión española de la escala (RCAS-VE). La adaptación transcultural de RCAS (25 ítems), se realizó mediante el proceso de traducción directa e inversa, estudiándose el grado de equivalencia por un grupo de expertos, hasta conseguir la versión final: RCAS-VE (25 ítems). Se realizó una prueba piloto a los 30 primeros cuidadores del total de la muestra seleccionada mediante muestreo aleatorio simple estratificado por centro de salud (N= 184). La experiencia del cuidador familiar no se puede describir únicamente a través de dimensiones negativas, sino que es necesario valorar elementos positivos. La RCAS-VE permite evaluar las dimensiones positivas y negativas en el cuidador familiar.

Abstract
Translation and transcultural adaptation of the revised scale of evaluation of the perception of family caregivers [Revised Caregiven Apraissal Scale (RCAS)] in the Spanish population

In Spain, no validated scales assessing positive and negative dimensions for family carers are known. The �Revised Caregiving Appraisal Scale� (RCAS) scale, composed of 25 items, evaluates both types of impact and has been extensively used internationally. The objective of the present study was to translate and cross-cultural adapt the RCAS scale for Spanish population, obtaining the Spanish version of the scale (RCASVE) (where �VE denotes �Version Española�). The Cross-Cultural adaptation of the RCAS (25 items) was carried out by using a direct translation and back translation process, studying the degree of equivalence by a group of experts, until obtaining the final version: RCAS-VE (25 items). A pilot test was performed on the first 30 caregivers of the total sample selected by simple random sampling stratified by health center (N = 184). The experiences of family carers cannot be described only in terms of negative dimensions, since it is also necessary to assess positive elements. The RCAS-VE enables us to asses positive and negative dimensions for family carers.
