Guardiana del espíritu de un machi y sus sueños

Resumen

En un centro de salud intercultural de Santiago de Chile, se ofrece a los usuarios la posibilidad adicional de acceder a la medicina mapuche, con la finalidad de complementar ambos sistemas de salud. Este relato biográfico, realizado en base a una entrevista en profundidad a la esposa del machi que atiende en ese lugar, describe su percepción sobre el proceso que éste vivió desde las primeras manifestaciones de la enfermedad que sugerían el don y el poder de las pruebas que inciden en su aceptación, la preparación e iniciación y algunas experiencias del período actual. Desde un plano aparentemente silencioso, su esposa ha jugado un papel clave en la provisión de las condiciones necesarias para la atención de los pacientes y a la vez, ha sido su fiel colaboradora en lo propiamente humano y una guardiana del espíritu del machi, guiada por el mensaje de sus sueños.

Abstract (Guardian of the spirit of a machi and her dreams)

In an intercultural health center of Santiago, Chile, the additional possibility to accede to mapuche medicine is offered to the clients with the purpose of complementing both health systems. This biographical story was written on the basis of an interview in depth to the wife of the machi who gives attention in this place. It describes her perception on the process that he lived since the first manifestations of the illness that were suggesting the gift and the power of the proofs that influence his acceptance, the preparation and initiation, and some experiences of the current period. From a seemingly silent plane, his wife has played a key role in the provision of the necessary conditions for the attention of the patients and simultaneously, she has been his faithful collaborator in what is properly human, and a guardian of the spirit of the machi guided by the message of her dreams.
