Resumen

Introducción. El Virus de Inmunodeficiencia Humana/Síndrome de Inmunodeficiencia Adquirida (VIH/SIDA), es un problema de salud pública con múltiples repercusiones psicológicas, sociales, éticas, económicas, políticas y de derechos humanos. Comprender el significado de vivir con VIH desde la perspectiva de quien lo vive, permitirá modificar las creencias y opiniones de quienes los cuidan adoptando actitudes más humanas y un apoyo más decidido desde la perspectiva de los derechos humanos. El objetivo del estudio fue comprender cómo se construye socialmente el significado de vivir con VIH. Metodología. Se utilizó aproximación cualitativa bajo la teoría fundamentada. La selección de participantes fue con base en el muestreo teórico siguiendo la técnica de bola de nieve; la recolección de datos se realizó a través de una entrevista semi-estructurada y mediante el análisis de contenido se definieron categorías, se realizó la codificación axial y selectiva. Resultados. Se identificaron siete categorías: información, creencias, percepciones, sentimientos, actitudes, aceptación de la realidad y adaptación a una nueva vida, alrededor de la categoría central: significado de vivir con VIH. El conocimiento de estos significados representa la oportunidad estratégica de ofrecer cuidados de Enfermería más integral y sensible culturalmente.

Abstract
The Meaning of living with with HIV, in the Voice of Those who face this Reality

Introduction. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus/ Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS), is a public health problem with multiple psychological, social, ethical, economic, political and human rights repercussions. Understanding the meaning of living with HIV from the perspective of those who live it, will allow for the modification of beliefs and opinions of their care givers by adopting more humane attitudes and a more decided support from the human rights perspective. The objective of the study was to understand how living with HIV is socially seen. Methodology. A qualitative approximation based upon the grounded theory was utilized. The selection of participants was based upon the theoretical sampling following the snowball theory; the data gathering was achieved by means of a semi-structured interview and categories were defined by means of content analysis , axial and selective codification were carried out. Results. Seven categories were identified: information, beliefs, perceptions, feelings, attitudes, acceptance of the reality and adaptation to a new life around the central category: the significance of living with HIV. The knowledge of these meaning represents the strategical opportunity for offering of a more integral and culturally sensitive Nursing care.
